Biography




Barcelona, 1960. He studied guitar in his hometown, graduating from ESMUC, where he also did a Master's in Classical and Contemporary Music. He has also specialized in historical instruments (theorbo, vihuela and baroque guitar). His professional career is eclectic and ranges from early music with original instruments to contemporary music, and he develops simultaneously in three areas: concerts, recordings and teaching.


As a soloist, he has received favorable reviews for all his performances, doing more than 120 concerts a year playing as a soloist or, especially, in the Barcelona Guitar Trio, of which he is a founding member. He has performed in Spain, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Estonia, Italy, Malta, Israel, Russia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Turkey, the United States, Mexico, Cuba, all of Central America, South America (Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Brazil), Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Korea and Japan. He collaborated with Le Concert des Nations, directed by Jordi Savall. He is currently participating with great public success in the Maestros de la Guitarra Española festival, in which guitarists such as David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Aniello Desiderio, Zorán Dukic, Antonio Rey, Yamandú Costa and Ricardo Gallén also participate.


He has recorded two solo CD's: Meeting (with music by Tárrega and Albéniz) and Three centuries (from the Renaissance to Romanticism, with vihuela and baroque and romantic guitars), six CD's with the flutist Montserrat Gascón, a CD with the mezzo-soprano Margarida Lladó, a DVD with the Barcelona 4 guitars and recently a triple CD with the Barcelona Guitar Trio. He participated in the CD recording of Joaquín Rodrigo's integral for the EMI label, as well as in the recording of Manuel Valls's and Roberto Gerhard's integrals with the contemporary music group Barcelona 216. He also participated in the recording of the DVD of the Opera l'Orfeo, by C. Monteverdi, produced by the BBC, with The Concert of Nations directed by Jordi Savall.


Since 2003 he has been a professor at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), where he teaches Chamber Music, Guitar and Specific Guitar Repertoire, undergraduate and Master's degrees.


Awarded in prestigious international competitions (first prize in the ONCE competition, Madrid 1989; second prize and special prize from the jury in the María Canals competition, Barcelona 1992; prize for the best interpreter of Spanish music in the Jacinto and Inocencio Guerrero competition, Madrid 1995, among others), critics He has highlighted his refined technique, his musical rigor and, in particular, has valued his great ability to generate feelings through his passionate interpretations.
